So I admit it. I’m a ‘The Block’ tragic. I love it. So as I was watching the challenge apartment renovation this week I began wondering what happens to the challenge apartments. You don’t ever seem to hear anything about them. They are definitely not sold on auction night. So this week I made it my business to find out.
A recap Briefly
Last season was The Block Octogon, with apartments 2 to 6 at 1A Affleck Street South Yarra being auctioned on the the 21st November and broadcast as part of the season finale. The apartments all sold on the night with prices ranging from $1,735,000 to $2.3 million for the penthouse. It is worth nothing that these apartments were all sold fully furnished. For a full recap check out the wikipeadia page (the detail is amazing).
The Challenge Apartment
Of course the Wikipedia page does not reveal details of the sale of the challenge apartment because the sale of this apartment was not part of the show. So here is the goss:
RP Data shows that the property at 1 of 1A Affleck Street South Yarra sold on the 10th December 2015 for $1,670,000 some $65,000 less than apartment number 2, which was Kingi and Caro’s, who were the ultimate winners of the season.
Talking about Kingi and Caro’s Apartment:
The property was purchased by a charity organisation who raffled the property off. Obviously the apartment was not to the taste or location of the lucky winner who on sold the apartment in July 2016 (minus the furniture) for $1,722,000 some $13,000 less than it originally sold for.
